UK donations are making a significant impact on the lives of babies in Kenya

Thank you – over the last year our UK supporters have been amazing in continuing to donate to New Life Home Trust UK. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and the impact it will have on the 125 babies and children currently residing in our homes in Kenya is immeasurable.

Oxygen Supply project

New Life Home Trust

One such project that has just received all the necessary funding, thanks to support from a UK donor, is the provision of oxygen therapy and suction equipment for our Kisumu home, and also for portable oxygen sets for all four of the New Life homes.

Many of the children at New Life Home Trust are rescued with pre-existing health conditions. These often include compromised respiratory systems and as such, their own oxygen supply is not able to cope with their own oxygen demand. As a result, oxygen and suction supply equipment needs to be available and ready for use at all times – as this could be the difference between life and death.

Having mobile oxygen cylinders and suction machines on hand would be a major asset, especially when transporting our babies to and from hospital in an emergency situation.

Thankfully the PD Foundation, one of our UK supporters has donated the remaining funds to help make the purchasing of this equipment possible. A proportion of the money required had already been donated by other supporters in Kenya.

The PD foundation was keen to be able to donate to a project that provided sustainable life saving equipment for the babies and children rescued by New Life.

Founder Peter Diethelm first visited New Life Home Trust back in 2012 when he was on a family holiday to Kenya and since then the charity has always been close to his heart. Peter said “I am really pleased that we can help with such a worthwhile cause. The work that New Life Home Trust does is so important, and I am very grateful that the PD foundation is in a position to help support such a valuable project that will help save the lives of these precious babies.”

Methlick Fund Run

On 17 April UK supporters Stuart Kennedy and his family put on their running shoes and embarked on the annual Methlick Fund Run to help raise funds for New Life. Due to the restrictions in place this year’s event was a virtual one, with runners encouraged to go out and run their own 5k or 10k route.

Thank you to all those runners who took part and all those who supported the event which raised nearly £1000, a brilliant achievement! If you didn’t get a chance to donate don’t worry you still can through Virgin Money Giving.

Christmas Campaign to thank the staff of New Life

This year’s Christmas campaign was focused on raising money to turn into care packages for the staff working at the New Life Homes in Kenya and their families. The Covid pandemic has affected everyone, with the teams running the homes feeling the impact in many ways. The cost of living has increased, travelling became harder and more expensive, and many of the staff had their own children at home to look after, due to the closing of schools. However their resilience was incredible and they found ways to manage all of this, whilst continuing to look after the children at New Life.

Janet Mutinda, National Director of New Life Home Trust Kenya

Thanks to your generosity we were able to raise over £1,100, which has been sent over to Kenya to buy food, and supplies for the staff. With Kenya currently experiencing another outbreak in Covid cases these gifts are providing essential support and helping to ease the lives of those who care for the children rescued by New Life.

Janet Mutinda, National Director of New Life Home Trust Kenya said: “We remain grateful for your continued support and partnership. Your donations are critical in helping us bring new life to our babies. Asanteni sana (Thank you all very much)”
