Clive Beckenham, son of the founders of New Life Home Trust, shares his adoption story

Clive and Mary with their team back in 2005

Before there ever was a New Life Home Trust, Clive and Mary Beckenham rescued and adopted Clive Beckenham. This highlighted to them the plight of many other abandoned babies and they wondered if there might be other families prepared to do the same. They found that there were, and thus was born New Life Home Trust.

Here Clive shares his adoption story with us…

“Hello – I am Clive Beckenham or CJ to my friends, I’m 28 years old and currently living in England practicing as a graphic designer.

I’d like to share my story with you which began back in 1993 when I was a few weeks old. I was abandoned by my biological mother, but thankfully, God had a plan for me and led me to Clive and Mary Beckenham. I was malnourished and was failing to thrive. They took me in and ensured I received the necessary medication. This treatment alongside their love and care was what set me on the road to a full recovery.

Growing up with Clive and Mary as my parents has been one of the greatest blessings God has given me, as I have been blessed with such a loving close-knit family. I have two brothers and one sister. My parents have taught me the importance of love, care, and compassion through, not only the way that they treat me, but how they interact with everyone as well.

Their caring nature and thoughtfulness have enabled me to experience life in so many ways that would not have otherwise been made possible. Attending good schools in Nairobi and meeting family in England during my summer holidays, are just a few of the ways I’ve been able to grow and experience life in such an eye-opening way. Being adopted has played an integral role in my life, it’s an important part of my life story. The values that I embody today are learned from my parents.”

Growing up with New Life Home Trust

“Growing up with New Life Home Trust and being able to volunteer at the homes has been such a valuable experience for me. It reminds me of how far a kind gesture can go towards changing someone’s life.

Clive and Mary’s nature is felt throughout New Life Home Trust, from how the staff care and interact with the babies, giving each one of them love, care, and attention. Seeing the children full of joy and happiness playing together, always left me with a full heart knowing that they are greatly cared for – and that one day they will find a loving family like mine.”
